Price the complete journey
A room rate alone does not show the holiday cost. Include taxes, airport transfers, meal plans, domestic baggage, excursions and any festive supplements.
Match the island to you
Prioritise what you will do most: snorkelling, diving, beach time, family activities, culture or dining. A famous resort can still be the wrong fit if its reef or transfer does not match your plans.
Leave connection time
International flights, domestic services, seaplanes and speedboats operate as separate moving parts. Build a realistic connection and share flight details early.
1–3: Passport, declaration and confirmed stay
Check current Maldives Immigration requirements before departure, including passport validity and the electronic traveller declaration. Carry confirmed accommodation and onward-travel details. Entry rules can change, so use the official immigration website rather than relying on an old social post or travel forum.
4–6: Understand island transfers
A resort or local island may require a speedboat, seaplane, domestic flight, public ferry or combination. Services have operating windows and luggage rules. Never book an international arrival and assume an onward transfer will be waiting at any hour; have the property or agent confirm the connection in writing.
7–9: Taxes, meals and spending
Ask whether the quote includes applicable taxes, transfers and compulsory supplements. Breakfast, Half Board, Full Board and All Inclusive are not standardised across resorts. Read what drinks, restaurants and activities are actually included, then budget for excursions, spa treatments and tips according to your travel style.
10–12: Reef, room and insurance
A beautiful aerial photograph does not show the quality of a house reef, the room’s walking distance or the swimming conditions at your beach. Match the property to what you will do most. Comprehensive travel insurance should cover disruption, medical treatment and planned activities such as scuba diving.
